Camp MARIACHI USA to provide
Intensive Music Training and Skill-Building Sessions for Youth
Mariachis
Los Angeles, CA – April 10, 2006 – Over 100 students
will hone their mariachi music skills when leading mariachi maestros
from San Antonio, Tucson and Los Angeles teach students at the
first annual CAMP MARIACHI USA organized by the MARIACHI USA
Foundation, a California non-profit organization.
The Camp is
set for April 13, 14, and 15, 2006, at the Wallis Annenberg Building
at the California Science Center Campus in Los Angeles.
“It has been our long time goal to offer our grant recipients
this experience here in Los Angeles,” says Rodri J. Rodriguez,
Chair of the MARIACHI USA Foundation. “The CAMP is being
provided at no cost to the students and we are working diligently
to underwrite all the expenses for the CAMP.”
Students will meet, learn and jam with other Foundation students
from six California schools. They will also have the opportunity
to visit the California Science Center. Participating students
are part of the Foundation’s year-round grant program that
provides funds for music instruction to school-based youth mariachi
programs. Since 1990 the Foundation has granted over $160,000
for music and vocal instruction, and instrument purchases.
